Jade Empowers First Responders in Areas With Low Or No Cell Service

The Gist

  • Jade helps save lives in 6 remote counties in Colorado with free Wi-Fi for first responders with SmartTown

We’re leveling up the way we connect—and this time, it’s not just about faster speeds or cooler gadgets. We’re proud to be the first internet provider in Colorado to give first responders free, secure, and reliable Wi-Fi through our state-of-the-art network.

It all kicked off with San Luis Valley Health, the only in-patient hospital serving the massive 8,000-square-mile San Luis Valley. Now, their medical teams have Wi-Fi wherever they go, at no cost to them — because keeping heroes connected is our kind of innovation. This isn’t just for our customers either — tens of thousands of residents will benefit from first responders being able to connect during an emergency situation. Soon, Jade will provide the same support to local fire stations, police squads, search and rescue (SAR) organizations, and critical air medical transport companies serving our area.

“Access to cellular service has long been a challenge in Southern Colorado,” said Josh Wehe, Jade’s Director of Operations. “The Jade network, now free of cost to first responders, will save lives by enabling these heroes to make split-second decisions while they are at a remote patient’s home.”

Medical Support – Anytime, Anywhere

In emergencies, every second counts. Whether it’s a serious injury on a remote hiking trail or a natural disaster that disrupts normal communication channels, first responders need instant guidance from doctors and specialists. However, the lack of reliable internet, especially in rural & mountainous areas has made this nearly impossible – until now.

With Jade’s SmartTown Wi-Fi, our first responders have access to on-the-go-medical support and instantly connect with centralized care teams at SLV Health for real-time consultations and access to electronic health records, allowing for faster, more accurate medical interventions.

Faster Recovery in the Wake of Natural Disasters

When natural disasters strike, the aftermath can be overwhelming — both for first responders and those affected. After a wildfire, flood, or other crisis, recovery efforts require immediate coordination across multiple agencies. But in many parts of Southern Colorado, reliable cellular coverage is not readily available, delaying recovery efforts.

Jade’s SmartTown ensures that first responders can maintain critical connections during such events allowing for faster recovery efforts and better coordination across teams. This technology is not just about staying connected – it’s about rebuilding quickly and keeping locals and tourists safe.

Safer Communities for Everyone

At its core, SmartTown Wi-Fi is about making our entire community safer. From providing faster, more efficient medical care in remote areas to ensuring that first responders can work seamlessly during emergencies. This initiative benefits everyone. It’s a community driven project designed to protect the people who call Southern Colorado home, whether they’re at work, at play, or in the midst of a crisis.

“When a first responder drives up to a Jade-connected home with no or low cell service, they can be assured that their medical devices will remain safely connected to SmartTown,” said Alan Wehe, Jade’s founder and CEO.

This partnership between Jade and San Luis Valley Health is about more than just technology – it’s about community, safety and support. Together we’re building a stronger future for Southern Colorado, one that ensures no one is ever out of reach.
