5 Cybersecurity Tips to Keep Your Online and Offline World Safe

The Gist

  • We want our customers to own their online, and offline, experiences and our goal is to give you the tools to do that.
  • We design Jade products and services to protect your privacy and give you control over your information.
  • It’s one thing to know how to keep yourself safe in the digital and physical world. It’s another thing to put these tips into practice.

What’s more important to you: the safety of your data and online accounts, or having an easy experience when browsing the web? According to a 2021 Norton study, you probably picked the latter: more than three out of five consumers surveyed said they accepted certain privacy risks online to make life more convenient.

As October is Cyber Security Awareness Month, we’re sharing a quick refresher on how to keep your online and offline world safe:

1. Protect your devices
The best line of defense against online threats: keep your operating system and applications up to date. Most updates include important security fixes which help defend your devices against malware. The good news? All Jade Internet Plans include an extra layer of protection (at no cost to you) for your devices against viruses, malware, and malicious websites, keeping your network and devices safe from cyberattacks.

You don’t have to worry about updating your router’s firmware to keep it operating and secure, and we make sure it supports the latest devices and fastest speeds with all the latest updates.

2. Use secure Wi-Fi
Most local businesses offer free Wi-Fi for customers to connect to. But before you do, ask them if they have Jade Wi-Fi. Our extra layer of network security helps businesses around the area stay protected against malicious traffic on all of the devices connected to their Jade Wi-Fi. So while Jade secures the business, the business secures you. It’s a win-win situation!

3. Manage your passwords
A strong, unique password is a strong defense against hackers. As a rule of thumb, make sure you use long, unique passwords, don’t recycle your passwords, use a password manager, and enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) for extra security.

You can manage your Wi-Fi password directly in the Jade Wi-Fi app. Through the app, you can also view connected devices on your network, set up parental controls or a guest network and run speed tests. Think of the app as a magic wand that protects and empowers your family online!

4. Protect your physical space
Did you know that homes without a security system are 300% more likely to be broken into? And law enforcement has reported that only 13% of those cases are solved. At Jade, we believe that community is everything. Period. That’s why we’re on a mission to keep our communities connected and safe with Jade Security.

Jade Security is built to protect your home, from first homes to vacation homes, so you can worry less knowing the things that matter most are always safe and sound. The best part? It works seamlessly with your Jade Wi-Fi.

5. Click with confidence
We want our customers to own their online experience and our goal is to give you the tools to do that, no IT degree necessary! That’s why we developed a service called Click: with just a few tappity-tap-taps, you can set online and offline schedules for your kiddos (so they actually do their homework), filter out harmful content like pornography and crime, reallocate your bandwidth to specific devices in the home and so much more. And it’s so, so easy to use.

Remember—it’s one thing to know how to keep yourself safe in the digital and physical world. It’s another thing to put these tips into practice.

At Jade, we care about keeping you and your family safe! If you have questions about your service or want to learn more about the steps we’re taking to keep our customers and communities safe, contact us — we are here and happy to help!
